HOW YOU CAN HELP

  1. Identify trees in your community that need to be removed and processed. Look specifically for neighbors who cannot do the work themselves or cannot afford to pay for the removal.

  2. Round up volunteers in your community and schedule a day to serve. Ideally, teams of 4-6 with chainsaws, strong backs, and a truck or utility trailer can get the job done.
Cut the trunks and large branches into 20-inch sections. Rent or borrow a log splitter to split the large pieces into 4-inch firelogs.

  3. Load the logs onto a trailer and contact 3GEN to arrange a drop-off. We can arrange a pick up if needed, but availability is limited.

 Volunteer Opportunities

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12 • 8:30am to 12:00pm (or as long as you are available)

1. Firewood Processing - Greenworks Recycling

CONTACT: Josh Pedersen 864-209-1347

We need a team of 10 men to come out to Greenworks Recycling (15 Beverly Rd #3146, Greenville, SC 29609) to be trained on how to operate a firewood processing machine that will cut, split and bundle wood.

2. Neighborhood Harvesting - Saturday, October 12, 8:00am-12:00pm

We have harvesting teams assembling in various neighborhoods around the upstate. These teams will need men with chainsaws, strong backs to move wood, log splitters, and trucks and/or trailers to load the rounds or split logs for drop-off.

The four main neighborhoods/areas and contacts are

  • Greer (29651) - Travis Runion - 864-320-4661

  • Gower (29607) - Dave Gilmer - 864-414-0073

  • Foxcroft (29615) - Alan Swartzentruber 864-414-1049

  • Simpsonville/Five Forks (29680) - Brad Brown 434-249-8545

  • Roper Mtn (29615) - Jon Ward 864-434-1440

If you are able to assist with any of these efforts, please send a text to the respective project lead.

THE WHY

  1. We have men and families who are eager to help with the relief effort

  2. We have local communities with many downed trees that need to be removed. Many trees have already been processed by crews and are sitting on the curbs.

  3. As colder temps descend on the area, there is a real need in Western North Carolina for firewood. We are coordinating with local pastors and community leaders to distribute firewood to those in need.
